Case Studies using Micro IoT Gateway

DIS Reduced Maintenance & Manpower Costs with MIG Powered Remote Monitoring & Control System

Overview
Digital Information System (DIS) a manufacturer of Industrial Access Control Gates is using the MIG platform to remotely monitor and predict the health of their gates. The smart gates now send maintenance data periodically to the MIG Cloud server which gets an analyzed and finally helps in decision making.

Problems DIS faced:
  • The Gates are mostly installed in mines & power plants located in very remote places across 5 states in India
  • The gates had dumb, non-connected control systems and no maintenance data could be acquired
  • Performing regular maintenance manually was a big challenge and comprised of labor, time and cost
  • Identifying a damaged part was a problem and a time consuming process
Steps taken to solve the problems:
  • DIS replaced their old control systems with MIG’s IoT based systems
  • They worked closely with the MIG team to identify data acquisition points in electrical and electro-mechanical parts
  • Deployed 5 gates with MIG’s system as a trial run and acquired data for over 3 months
  • With the help of the MIG team they used the data to create a baseline for further analytics and decision making

Conclusion
By using the MIG platform, DIS not only reduced their monthly cost on maintenance activities, but also achieved better visibility of health condition of the gates, optimum labor allocation for maintenance job, reduced inventory for spare parts, provide better service to end customer and achieve better customer satisfaction.
